How the Image Converter Works

Our converter runs entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. When you upload an image, it's decoded locally into pixel data, then re-encoded into your chosen output format. No server, no upload, no waiting.

Step 1: Upload. Drop or select any supported image file. HEIC files from iPhones are automatically decoded using a specialized library — no conversion server needed.

Step 2: Choose format. Select your output format and adjust quality (for JPEG and WebP). The quality slider controls the compression-to-fidelity tradeoff — lower quality means smaller files.

Step 3: Convert & Download. Click convert and your file is ready instantly. The output is a clean file with all tracking metadata stripped by default.

Privacy-First — No Uploads, No Servers, No Risk

The FBI issued a warning in March 2025 about free online file converters being used to distribute malware. Most conversion sites upload your files to remote servers — even if they claim to delete them later, you're trusting their infrastructure with your data.

Our converter is fundamentally different. All processing happens in your browser's JavaScript engine using the Canvas API. Your image is loaded into memory as a local blob, converted using native browser codecs, and the result is generated as a downloadable file — all without a single byte leaving your device.

As a bonus, every conversion automatically strips EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, camera serial numbers, editing software signatures, and other tracking data that most converters leave intact. You get a clean file that reveals nothing about where, when, or how the photo was taken.

Supported Formats — HEIC, WebP, PNG, JPEG, SVG, TIFF & More

FormatInputOutputNotes
JPEG / JPGYesYesLossy compression, quality slider controls size vs. fidelity
PNGYesYesLossless, supports transparency. Best for screenshots and graphics
WebPYesYesModern format by Google. Lossy mode with quality slider
HEIC / HEIFYesNoiPhone photo format. Decoded client-side via heic2any library
SVGYesNoVector graphics rasterized at original dimensions
BMPYesYesUncompressed bitmap. Large files but pixel-perfect
GIFYesNoFirst frame only for animated GIFs. Animation not preserved
TIFFYesNoCommon in scanning and photography. Decoded via WASM
AVIFYesYesNext-gen format with superior compression. WASM codec

Why Use Our Converter Instead of CloudConvert, Convertio, or Squoosh?

vs. CloudConvert / Convertio / Zamzar — These tools upload your images to their servers for processing. You're trusting a third party with your data, and you're limited by upload speeds and server queues. Our tool processes everything locally — it's instant and private.

vs. Squoosh (Google) — Squoosh is excellent for single-image optimization but doesn't support batch processing or HEIC input. It also doesn't strip metadata. Our tool handles HEIC natively and removes all tracking metadata by default.

vs. TinyPNG — TinyPNG only handles PNG and JPEG compression. It doesn't convert between formats, doesn't support HEIC or WebP input, and uploads your files to their servers. Our tool supports 10+ formats with zero uploads.

Price comparison — CloudConvert starts at ~$8/month, Convertio at $10/month, Zamzar at $9/month. Our Pro plan is $10/month and includes unlimited access to six tools: converter, metadata cleaner, privacy analyzer, content credentials checker, image diff, and invisible watermark.

Common Use Cases for Image Format Conversion

iPhone HEIC to JPEG. iPhones save photos in HEIC format by default, but many websites, email clients, and apps still require JPEG. Drop your HEIC file here and get a JPEG instantly — no app needed.

WebP to JPEG/PNG. Downloaded a WebP image from a website but need it in a more compatible format? Convert it here without losing quality.

PNG to JPEG for smaller files. PNGs from screenshots can be huge. Convert to JPEG with the quality slider to dramatically reduce file size while maintaining visual quality.

JPEG to PNG for transparency. Need to add transparency or preserve exact pixel data? Convert your JPEG to lossless PNG.

SVG to PNG for sharing. SVG files don't display in all apps. Rasterize your SVG to PNG for universal compatibility.

Privacy-safe sharing. Convert and strip metadata in one step before sharing photos online. GPS coordinates, camera info, and editing history are all removed automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

What image formats can I convert between?

You can convert from JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, HEIC, HEIF, SVG, TIFF, AVIF, JPEG XL, and ICO. Output formats include JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL, and BMP. All conversions happen instantly in your browser — 12 input formats, 6 output formats.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API and WASM codecs. Your images never leave your device. The only network request is an anonymous usage counter — no image data is transmitted.

Does the converter strip metadata from my images?

Yes. Converting through the Canvas API inherently removes all EXIF, GPS, XMP, and IPTC metadata. This is a privacy feature unique to our tool — most online converters leave metadata intact.

How do I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

Simply upload your HEIC file and select your desired output format (JPEG is recommended for photos, PNG for screenshots). The tool uses the heic2any library to decode HEIC files directly in your browser — no server upload, no app needed.

What does the quality slider do?

The quality slider controls the compression level for lossy formats (JPEG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL). At 100%, you get the highest possible quality but larger files. At lower values, the file shrinks significantly with increasing (but usually imperceptible) quality loss. For most photos, 80-90% is the sweet spot.

Is this really free?

Yes. Anonymous users get 5 free conversions per day. Sign up for a free account to get 10 per day. Pro users ($10/month) get unlimited conversions plus access to all six tools on our platform.
